Develop Expert-Level Operational Test Management Skills

Effective test management requires more than planning and supervising testing activities. Test managers must also manage suppliers, communicate with stakeholders, assess project risks, interpret test results and support informed release decisions.

The ISTQB® Certified Tester Expert Level – Test Management: Operational Test Management (CTEL-TM-OTM) certification develops the advanced skills required to manage testing at an operational level.

This certification focuses on managing external relationships, project risks, quality, reporting, test metrics, release considerations and project retrospectives. In addition, it explores how expert test managers can evaluate testing effectiveness and use reliable information to support business decisions.

CTEL-TM-OTM forms one of three parts of the complete ISTQB Expert Level Test Management certification. Therefore, candidates must successfully complete all three parts to achieve the full CTEL-TM certification.

The Three Parts of ISTQB Expert Level Test Management

The ISTQB Expert Level Test Management certification consists of three separate parts:

Operational Test Management

(CTEL-TM-OTM)

Strategic Test Management

(CTEL-TM-STM)

Managing the Test Team

(CTEL-TM-MTT)

A separate certification examination applies to each part. Consequently, passing the Operational Test Management examination alone does not award the complete CTEL-TM certification.

Candidates must successfully complete all three modules to earn the full ISTQB Certified Tester Expert Level – Test Management qualification.

An ISTQB Expert Level certificate is valid for seven years.
