Agile Tester
The ISTQB Agile certification is aimed at testers who are involved in iteration planning and especially those who are involved in the following activities: Participating in the detailed risk analysis of user stories, Determining the testability of user stories, Creating acceptance tests for user stories, Breaking down user stories into tasks (particularly testing tasks), Estimating testing effort for all testing tasks, Identifying functional and non-functional aspects of the system to be tested and Supporting and participating in test automation at multiple levels of testing
ISTQB CTAL-Agile Tester v2.0 is the latest released version of the ISTQB® Certified Tester Advanced Level Agile tester (CTAL-AT) certification. Anyone who has been studying for CTFL-Agile Tester v1.0 (2014) can write the exam until the sunset dates (the 6 May 2027 for English, 6 November 2026 for non-English).

Exam Structure
Candidates qualify for extra time if they are not writing the exam in their native language. Extra time needs to be applied for upon completing the exam registration form.

Exam Entry Criteria
To be eligible for the ISTQB Agile Tester exam, candidates should have passed an ISTQB Foundation exam and should hold an ISTQB Foundation certificate.

Q: Is the Foundation Level Agile Tester (CTFL-AT) certification being discontinued?
Yes, the CTFL-AT certification has officially entered its sunset phase following the release of the Advanced Level Agile Tester syllabus.

English Exams & Training: Available until 6 May 2027.

Non-English Exams & Training: Available until 6 November 2027. After these dates, the exam will no longer be offered.
Q: If I already hold the CTFL-AT certification, is it still valid after the sunset date?
Yes, absolutely. Like all core ISTQB certifications, your existing CTFL-AT certificate remains valid for life and will not expire. It will also continue to be recognized as a valid stepping stone alongside older CTFL certificates to meet the prerequisites for the new Advanced Level exam.
Q: Should I take the CTFL-AT exam now, or wait and take the new CTAL-AT v2.0?
It depends on your current certifications:

If you hold an older CTFL certificate (prior to v4.0) and want an Agile qualification without retaking the entire core foundation exam, completing the CTFL-AT before the 2027 deadline is a great option. It will also unlock your eligibility for the new Advanced level.

If you already hold the CTFL v4.0, you should skip the old CTFL-AT entirely and go straight for the new CTAL-AT v2.0, as you already meet the necessary prerequisites.
