About Us

The South African Software Testing Qualifications Board (SASTQB) is a not-for-profit exam service provider and provides a variety of international certifications that focus on software testing and quality assurance. We are also a member board of the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) that provides a local ISTQB service for South Africa and collaborates with all other member boards worldwide.

Our main objective is to promote software testing as a professional career not only in South Africa but for the African continent.

Our History

There are no pre-requisites for this course. However, it is recommended that the candidate have 6 months testing experience or an interest in software testing. The candidate will benefit if he/she has a basic background in either software testing or software development.

  • 2008

    The Year It All Started

    The SASTQB is a non-profit organization established to provide South Africa and the African continent with the opportunity to become part of the world’s faster-growing international software testing certifications scheme. 

    In 2008 we launched the ISTQB Foundation and three core ISTQB Advanced modules. 

  • 2012

    Africa's First General Assembly Meeting

    The SASTQB hosted the first TEST-IT Africa International Conference inline with the ISTQB GA Meeting in Cape Town. 

  • 2014

    Time for New Certifications

    The SASTQB released two new certifications; ISTQB Agile Tester and IREB CPRE Requirements Engineering Foundation Level.

  • 2015

    Hello Africa

    The TEST-IT Africa International Conference expanded the focus to not only cover South Africa but the African continent.

    The SASTQB launched the ISTQB Expert Levels as well as Mobile Certification

Provides strategic leadership, corporate governance and liaises with other certification entities, e.g. ISTQB. Represents South Africa at international assemblies. Oversees operations develop functional roles and assigns responsibilities to team members.

Our Mission

  • Provide skills development and certification for workers at all levels of ICT, by linking future technology trends with on-going certification.
  • Align and manage all training courses to ensure compliance with international certification schemes covering standards, guidelines and course substance.
  • Provide a standard skill framework to ensure that continuous development is aligned with future trends in order for certified professionals to meet requirements posed to them in the software testing industry.
  • Facilitating the certification of software testing professionals by providing training institutions with accreditation to conduct courses using acknowledged and accredited syllabi.
  • To contribute to the deeper understanding of all facets of software testing, by participating in various working groups that contribute to international working schemes.

Our Vission 

Along with continually improving and advancing the software testing profession, it is the vision of the SASTQB to:

  • Contribute to the recognition of software testing as a professional activity performed by skilled, competent and certified individuals.
  • Harness the knowledge and skills of experienced software testing practitioners in the ICT market to the benefit of both the local and international software testing community.
  • Provide the ICT market with a common understanding of testing through the use of accredited syllabi and certification processes.
  • Highlight the importance of independent software testing and the benefits to be achieved by using generally accepted standards.
  • Provide testing professionals with access to internationally recognised experts in the software testing domain.
  • Be the management and control body for software test engineering education in South Africa.
  • Supporting other African countries by means of services or support to establish a career path and certification framework for software testing.
  • Incorporate software testing as a profession in the African context and to develop this scarce resource to be part of the ICT delivery of skills and technology.

Our Objectives

It is the objective of the SASTQB to:

  • Contribute to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training programs.
  • Provide an internationally recognised qualification.
  • Attract outsourcing to South Africa through alignment with international standards.
  • Co-ordinate and standardise all national training requirements and certification.
  • Ensure that quality training and certification are obtained and retained.
  • Have a standard to which all companies can relate and acquire quality certified resources.
  • Incorporate tertiary institutions and to promote testing as a professional career in the industry.
  • Be an entry point into the market at an affordable price and increase the number of resources available to meet market needs.
  • Retain resources as well as create job opportunities within Africa.
  • Provide a credible professional qualification to candidates and enable commensurate remuneration.
  • Supply a much-needed, constant stream of skilled resources to the market place.
